Thursday the 26th of April marked the third Suited for Success (SFS) event. Having received great accolades for the event over the past two years, QUT WIB was determined to up-the-anti, making this the flagship networking event of the year. And boy did they deliver!
Teaming with QUT AMPed for the first time, the team sourced four of the best keynote speakers who were experts in their topic of choice.
Marvin Fox, networking king and photography phenomenon, taught the key formula to networking like a boss! Attendees like Cameron loved how he "went into great detail about how to engage with people in the right way."
Kurt Sanders used well-known celebrity Kanye West (Yeezy!) to provide the perfect introduction to personal branding. The key takeaway: Just be yourself. Own who you are, give more than you take, and find an employer that is a good fit for you!
Aimee McVeigh shared her own experiences raising children while balancing a directorship position. She inspired attendees to step away from their phones and be present in the moment. Work is only one part of a person's story, so don't make it your entire world!
Finally, Hayley Angel brought her comedic genius to the stage as the queen of communications. She gave us the inside tips into how she communicates confidently in her podcast, on TV, in Youtube videos, and even at events like this!
But that wasn't all! When I first entered the room, my eyes immediately went to the 2.5m long cheese platter. It looked straight out of a magazine and, along with the stunning river views, made a great conversation starter! With a champagne glass in one hand, and a Grill'd burger in the other, I networked with other students and industry professionals from firms like Grant Thornton, CPA, BDO and more!
With time to spare, I donned my business blazer and stepped in front of the camera to get an amazing, professionally edited LinkedIn headshot which would have cost me hundreds elsewhere!
Finally, it was time to do a bit of shopping! With The Minimal Co. pop-up store, and retail discounts with The Maple Hatton and Dissh, my friends and I were able to quickly update our wardrobes to be corporate ready.
Overall, the night was an amazing experience. Post-drinks at Fridays Riverside was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on everything I had learnt, and helped drive home the new connections I had forged.
